The School Poetry Competition is to mark Windrush Day and to commemorate Benjamin Zephaniah poet, writer and musician who sadly passed away in December 2023.

Windrush Day is a momentous time in History when the HMV Empire Windrush arrived at Tilbury Docks 22nd June 1948 with people from the Caribbean who came for a new life and to help the Mother Country after the Second World War. The day is a reminder of the invaluable contributions and enduring legacy of the Windrush Generation.
