Boxmoor resident, Yvonne Davis MBE, for services to education,(pictured on the left) was invited to attend this significant moment. Yvonne has taught for over 40 years in Coventry, Birmingham, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire (Head-teacher in two schools) and was nominated Woman of the Year in 2015. She attended the Guildhall, is a member of the alumnae and also member of Boxmoor WI.

Yvonne found her experience at Westminister Abbey illuminating, emotional and reflective. She was honoured to be invited to mourn, reflect and celebrate the life of a remarkable woman, Queen Elizabeth II. She remembers moments of great sadness as they stood in silence, the music and the procession. She saw, first hand, the tiredness and the loss etched on the faces of King Charles III and the royal family.

Like many of us Yvonne had watched, on television, people coming together as they queued for hours to see the coffin at Westminister Hall. She felt the same sense of unity with the guests invited to the Abbey. There were people frocked with medals and others who had met the Queen several times, all equal in their grief.

May she RIP our loyal, dedicated, caring Queen Elizabeth II
